These charges may be mandatory (e.g., resort fees) or optional (parking, phone calls or minibar charges) and are not included in your offer price.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You need to do your homework first! \u00a0Here are 14 hidden charges on Priceline hotel rooms that you need to be aware of:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0 Resort Fees<\/strong> &#8212; The biggest bugaboo is resort fees.\u00a0 The resort fee is a mandatory nightly surcharge, and may include such \u201cextras\u201d as the health club, local phone calls, and wifi.\u00a0 These charges are disclosed in advance on Hotwire but not on Priceline.\u00a0 Resort fees of $15 to $25 are most common, but the upcharges can be as high as $60 per night.<\/p>\n<p>Most Las Vegas hotels now charge resort fees and they are prevalent in many other places such as Florida, Hawaii and Puerto Rico as well. Be aware that you must pay local taxes on the resort fee.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">The charges come into play with \u201cresort\u201d category properties, but they may also be imposed at 4 star or below hotels.\u00a0 The concern with Priceline is that you may bid for a 2 or 3 star hotel and be \u201cupgraded\u201d to a fancier hotel that imposes a resort fee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">If you do your homework before your bid, you can usually figure out if resort fees are likely to be imposed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A list of Las Vegas resort fees is available here:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vegasmessageboard.com\/forums\/showthread.php?t=58770\">http:\/\/www.vegasmessageboard.com\/forums\/showthread.php?t=58770<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0 Parking<\/strong> \u00a0&#8212; Many big city hotels in places like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and New York charge exorbitant fees for parking.\u00a0 Fees of $35 per night are common but In Chicago, parking fees at high-end hotels can exceed $50 per night.\u00a0 Research the hotels you may be bidding on first, and check the reviews on TripAdvisor for information on parking charges.\u00a0 The semi-opaque sites may offer information on amenities like free parking that can inform your bid.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0 Extra Person Charge<\/strong> &#8212; Priceline reservations are for 2 people.\u00a0 On Hotwire, you can specify the number of persons per room. I travel extensively with my family, and have encountered an \u201cextra person\u201d charge only once.\u00a0 The hotel (Tarrytown House in Tarrytown, NY) insisted upon a $10 fee when checking in for my prepaid Priceline reservation. The room had two double beds that could easily accommodate our family of three, but we were charged the fee anyway.\u00a0 Tarrytown House is a primo property on a large estate overlooking the Hudson River, so we didn\u2019t mind too much!<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0 Rollaway Bed<\/strong> \u2013 The hotel may charge you for a rollaway bed or a crib.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0 Room Cleaning Charge<\/strong> \u2013 An Extended Stay America hotel, usually a 1 or 2 star on Priceline, may charge you $5 per day to \u201crefresh\u201d your room.\u00a0 Weekly cleaning is included.\u00a0 Aloft hotels, on the other hand, may offer you extra Starpoints if you forgo room cleaning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.\u00a0 Newspaper<\/strong> \u2013 Sometimes hotels will charge you $1 or so for daily delivery of the USA Today newspaper.\u00a0 They will remove these charges if you request.\u00a0 Actually, with a prepaid reservation, I have never been charged extra for this service.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.\u00a0 Use of the Room Safe<\/strong> \u2013 Again, this charge will be removed if you do not use the safe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.\u00a0 Breakfast<\/strong> \u2013 If the hotel offers free breakfast, then breakfast is included in your Priceline price.\u00a0 If breakfast is paid, you could end up spending as much as $20 per person at some upscale hotels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9.\u00a0 Internet<\/strong> &#8212; It is common for more expensive hotels to add an extra charge for high-speed internet or wifi access.\u00a0 With less expensive chain hotels, this service is usually included in the room price.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10.\u00a0 Minibar and Bottled Water <\/strong>\u2013 Every traveler knows to be careful about these items!<\/p>\n<p><strong>11.
